Marri Adithya Reddy is a politician affiliated with the Indian National Congress Party, from Hyderabad, Telangana, active both in state-level and national-level politics in India. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, the former Chief Minister, Dr. Marri Channa Reddy, Adithya has been working at the grassroot level to connect with people, understand and put their needs first.
Dr. Marri Channa Reddy, an extraordinary statesman and visionary, dedicated his life to uplift the conditions of the common people and establish good governance during his tenure as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh twice, governor of various states, and first minister of agriculture for Hyderabad state. During his time, he made innumerable contributions towards state and nation building. He was an able administrator, an agricultural reformist, transforming and stimulating almost every aspect of governance. Distinguished with an impeccable political career, he laid the initial bricks for the foundation of Telangana state. Dr. Reddy also played a key role in promoting industrialization.
Following in his footsteps, Marri Adithya Reddy, his grandson is taking his vision forward and has been working towards a positive societal impact through diverse community engagement initiatives and sustainable livelihood solutions through his foundation Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Foundation(MCRF).
Marri Adithya Reddy(MAR) is a prominent part of the country’s emerging brigade of young leaders aiming to usher in a new age in India’s political, social, and economic systems, one governed by principle, responsibility, and first-hand knowledge and experience.
The foundation of great decisions is a set of principles that are strong enough to not be divided by political obligations, yet flexible enough to adapt and develop to absorb good ideas and new insights.
– Marri Adithya Reddy
MAR’s ideals are at the core of everything he does, and it’s that strong foundation in his views that has allowed him to stand up for what he believes is right, time and again, he has voiced his opinion against establishments.
He grew up in Hyderabad under the profound influence of his grandfather, Dr. Marri Channa Reddy garu, two times Chief Minister of United Andhra Pradesh and Governor of multiple states.
MAR spent a few years in the U.S. working in various sectors including food processing plants, allowing him to learn about the food processing industry from the base level.
The MAR has contributed significantly to education. As a senior member of Hyderabad Public School Society's Managing Committee, he spearheaded programs like “Good Touch, Bad Touch”, teacher training, introducing the importance of agriculture to young kids, and other initiatives designed to bring about reforms in the educational system. He has been instrumental in expanding HPS to additional campuses throughout Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (HPS Warangal and HPS Ramanthpur) and encouraging the establishment of student incubation centres as a member of the committee. He as a board member also took the initiative to sanction the land for the graveyard for the Muslims in Old Custom Basti, Hyderabad.
His experiences as the Vice President of Telangana Cricket Association shaped his resolve to advocate for youth. It became increasingly clear to him that some of the issues people care about are jobs, the welfare of farmers, weavers and women.
Now, as a Chairman of the Marri Channa Reddy Foundation, MAR has been working on initiatives involving rural development, skilling of women, job creation for youth with renewable energy, ensuring many have been placed in good jobs, strengthening the farming community, working with textiles and handlooms departments, uplifting tribal communities, taking up civic issues and more. MAR has extensively worked for eGovernance solutions, which include policy interventions, public-private partnership models, rural agrotechnology, urban planning and healthcare.
With his love for the state and people, he set out to do good for the people. Following the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Marri Adithya Reddy joined the Indian National Congress. He was last appointed as Secretary of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) before joining TJS for a short time in 2018.
On August 26, 2018, Marri Adithya Reddy resigned from the Indian National Congress and joined the Telangana Jana Samithi Party, which is led by M. Kodandaram. MAR found Prof. Kodandaram's vision for Telangana and anti-establishment ideals to be similar to his own. Interestingly, he joined the party at the same office that was formerly the headquarters of Telangana Praja Samithi (TPS), which was formed by his grandfather in the late 1960s to spearhead the Telangana movement. MAR joined TJS to support them and form an anti-establishment front. He tried to work towards creating a powerful alliance and stand against KCR. However, situations did not turn out as expected. TJS compromised with their initial objectives. Thus, he resigned from TJS at the last minute and, as a sign of protest, contested as an independent candidate from Tandur, where his grandfather contested twice.
Marri Adithya Reddy, rejoined the Indian National Congress in February 2022 and has been an active member of the party ever since. MAR played a key role in INC's membership drive. He enrolled a striking 14,000 members for INC. His remarkable contribution in the membership drive was lauded by senior members of the party, including Rahul Gandhi ji and TPCC President Revanth Reddy. MAR has been appointed PCC delegate for INC Telangana because of his exceptional leadership abilities.
